The Vulpe laboratory is located in the Center for Environmental and Human Toxicology and the Department of Physiology at the University of Florida. Research focuses on topics related to ecotoxicogenomics. Current projects include (1) the identification of conserved pathways in Saccharomyces cerevisiae that will provide insight on the susceptibility of people and organisms to emerging contaminants (pesticides, biofuels, and flame retardants),  (2) understanding the toxicity of xenobiotics in aquatic ecosystems by monitoring changes in global gene expression patterns in aquatic indicator species, (3) functional analysis of proteins using a new ToxCrispr application, (4) characterizing the role of Hephaestin and Zyklopen ferroxidase proteins in iron homeostasis, and (5) exploring characteristics of silver nanowires that make them more or less toxic in aquatic ecosystems, with the aim to inform silver nanowire synthesis to be safer by design.
